McDonald Water Storage’s reputation for manufacturing like for like replacement thermal stores has reached a global level with its latest project when it manufactured and supplied a 180 litre thermal store for a customer in the Falkland Islands.
The customer had a 28 year old Flowmax Fortic Thermal Store which had started to show small perforations in the base of the expansion tank.
They initially approached the original manufacturer only to find his model had been discontinued from the range and could not supply a like for like replacement.
Faced with the costly proposition of amending pipework and additional installation work, the customer approached McDonald Water Storage to take advantage of their “Like for Like Replacement Solutions.”
After discussing the customer’s requirements, McDonald Water Storage manufactured a 180 litre THERMflow Open Vented Boiler Model, measuring 1500mm x 570mm with all the connections located in the exact same position as the previous unit.
The THERMflow thermal store featured a Domestic Hot Water Coil complete with a thermostatic mixing valve to avoid scalding together with 22mm connections for the vented boiler and central heating systems.
McDonald Water Storage also included 2 thermostats, a temperature gauge and a 3kW back up immersion together as well as 60mm insulation to minimise heat loss.
McDonald Water Storage’s Technical Sales Specialist, Lee Graham, explained, “We are regularly manufacturing hot water solutions for customers in Europe, however, the Falkland Islands is without question the furthest we have shipped one of our systems – so it was absolutely critical we got it right.”
