Coppersmith Skills Create Bespoke Unit for Edinburgh Gin

McDonald Engineers UK has demonstrated its coppersmith skills by creating this bespoke draining unit for Edinburgh Gin which is used to empty gin stills to allow essential maintenance.

The bespoke unit features an inlay tray with copper mesh sheets to catch any botanicals or residue left in the system and is manufactured from the same grade of heavy duty copper as used in its gin stills to maintain the integrity of the product.

McDonald Engineers UK has been applying its coppersmith skills for over 70 years and whilst the vast majority of its business is focused on manufacturing superior quality hot water cylinders, it is regularly called upon to carry out bespoke contracts such as this.

In fact, its expertise in fabrication has seen it manufacture bespoke copper gin stills for two craft gin distillers in Scotland as well as a whisky still for a malt whisky producer.

McDonald Engineers UK’s Sales Manager, David Stewart, “The growth of the craft distilling market in the UK is resulting in an increase in demand for gin and whisky stills and we are more than happy to assist with these types of commissions.”

He continued, “Our experience in working with copper together with our flexible manufacturing approach and our traditional skills, means we are best placed to tackle virtually any project.”
