McDonald Deliver Innovative CUBEflow Thermal Store With Integrated Heat Interface Unit

McDonald Engineers has designed and delivered an innovative thermal store packaged solution which enables them to offer a new approach to hot water solutions for tower blocks and flats.

The solution was developed for a refurbishment project of a block of 70 flats in the North East of England, which required a more energy efficient solution under the government’s Renewable Heat Incentive programme.

Working closely with the Housing Association’s consulting engineers, McDonald Engineers developed a packaged solution using their CUBEflow Thermal Store with a Heat Interface Unit, which was supplied via a Biomass-powered Central Boiler Plant.

Each unit was being retrofitted into existing cupboard space, but with the tower block being constructed from precast concrete, the available space could not be altered. However, with the space saving nature of rectangular tanks, which can deliver up to 27% more capacity within the same space - using McDonald Engineers CUBEflow was the optimum approach.

McDonald Engineers mounted the Heat Interface Unit on a prefabricated steel frame sitting below the rectangular CUBEflow Thermal Store tank. The Heat Interface Unit uses heat from the Central Boiler Plant and as and when required, distributes heat to the property and also to the thermal store via a high efficiency primary coil.
