ECOflow Heat Pump Cylinders Used for Energy Savings Programme

McDonald Engineers’ heat pump hot water cylinder, ECOflow, has been selected as the preferred solution for a Community Energy Savings Programme.

McDonald Engineers has already supplied a number of its ECOflow cylinders into the programme which is part of the government's Home Energy Saving Programme set up to encourage gas and electricity suppliers to deliver energy saving measures to domestic consumers in low income areas of Great Britain.

Social Housing Turns to Renewable Hot Water Cylinders

McDonald Engineers has supplied 12 of its Contract POWERflow unvented cylinders complete with heat pump and solar coils for the refurbishment of social housing in the west of Scotland.

The company’s Contract POWERflow can provide a cost effective alternative for larger projects requiring lower specification unvented cylinders.

And whilst the Contract POWERflow may be a more simplified unit than the original POWERflow, McDonald Engineers continue to offer a full customisation service to allow clients to include additional coils for use with multiple fuel sources.

Quality Rapid Recovery Cylinder Key to Performance

McDonald Engineers was called to provide advice on a competitor’s quick recovery cylinder which was causing continual problems and found the issue to be down to the thickness of the copper which was unable to support the coil.

These quick recovery cylinders tend to feature smaller capacities with large, high efficiency coils to bring the water up to temperature very quickly. This means that large quantities of hot water are not heated and wasted if not required. It also significantly reduces boiler cycling - leading to large savings on fuel bills.

McDonald Engineers Win Best Performing Business Award

McDonald Engineers is celebrating another achievement as it picked up the Best Performing Business Award at the prestigious Fife Business Awards ceremony held last week.

The awards recognise Fife businesses which have shown outstanding performance in their area and have helped to drive forward the local economy.

New Literature to Support PLATEflow Growth

McDonald Engineers has updated its literature for its highly successful PLATEflow system which provides a solution to decrease the amount of stored hot water required, while still delivering peak flow rates as demanded. The PLATEflow system comprises a Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger (PHE), pre-piped and mounted on a Buffer Vessel. It is designed to supply hot water in situations where demand can vary over the course of a day, e.g. hotels, hospitals, factories etc.

Change at McDonald Engineers

Just as the clocks have changed, so too have the roles of our technical sales managers, albeit only slightly. Moving on to pastures new is Calum MacKinnon, who we thank for his good work during his time with McDonald Engineers and wish him every success in the future. Calum’s departure has seen a slight restructuring of the Technical Sales team and Stuart Graham will now take over Calum's role covering all specification and technical requirements for the West and Central Scotland. He will continue to keep in touch with all merchants in this area as well.

BPEC Certified Unvented Cylinder Training Course

Before the year end, McDonald Engineers will be hosting another BPEC Certified Unvented Cylinder training course which will take place on Wednesday 12th December 2012 (with the next course pencilled in for 19th February 2013). With all plumbers and installers having a legal obligation to complete this course every 5 years, McDonald Engineers soften the blow by offering £75 worth of vouchers redeemable against future purchases of its ECOflow and POWERflow cylinders.
