Hot Water Cylinder News
Glenrothes based manufacturers of hot water cylinders, McDonald Engineers, has demonstrated that family businesses can continue to deliver success over the long term by welcoming its 3rd generation to the business.
David Stewart, son of Managing Director Bill Stewart, nephew of Sales Director, Jamie Stewart and grandson of previous owner Mr Stewart, has joined the company’s technical sales office after a period on the shop floor where he experienced a thorough introduction to the manufacturing process of hot water cylinders.
A top class cylinder for the world class National Library of Scotland
McDonald Engineers can now claim their POWERflow unvented cylinder is in a national institution following a recent project which saw one if its commercial grade cylinders being installed in the National Library of Scotland.
The POWERflow was installed as part of a routine maintenance programme and due to the height of the building, Scotland’s largest library required a 4 bar working pressure copper cylinder manufactured to their exact specification.
McDonald Engineers has demonstrated its expertise in the hotel and leisure sector by installing its POWERflow commercial cylinders in Edinburgh’s newest hotel. Situated in the Bruntsfield area of the city, The Links Hotel, has just undergone a major refurbishment spending in excess of £1million pounds with all 22 of the rooms undergoing a complete transformation. And with such a large investment, owners Kingdom Hotels were determined to install a quality hot water system that would meet its exemplary standard of quality.
McDonald Engineers has added World Heritage Site and the birth place of Sir Winston Churchill, Blenheim Palace, to its growing portfolio of clients with the installation of a number of their ECOflow heat pump cylinders. Designed specifically to work with heat pumps, the ECOflow is quickly becoming increasingly popular in both the commercial and residential sector.
As many firms looks to wind down for the summer period, McDonald Engineers is gearing up for one of its busiest periods of the year for commercial calorifiers, as schools across the UK begin their maintenance programmes during the school holidays.
The rigorous demands placed on a school’s hot water system demands a high capacity calorifier that is both reliable and efficient.
However, add in the heightened awareness of potential health issues in the public sector and copper calorifiers are becoming the perfect solution.
McDonald Engineers has once again reinforced its position as one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of copper hot water cylinders by increasing the specification of its standard Thermal Stores to deliver maximum performance. The move comes following extensive trials with its market leading THERMflow Thermal Store, over the last 12 months where the company measured the response from clients and the effect on performance. The THERMflow is now manufactured from a minimum of 1mm thick copper and features an extended length secondary coil for all units.
McDonald Engineers, the Fife based manufacturer of hot water cylinders, has won the President’s Award for Outstanding Achievement at the annual Scottish Engineering Awards, held at the Marriot Hotel in Glasgow.
Despite the massive impact of the recession on the construction market and the fact that the company’s main raw material has increased in cost by 300% in the last 2 years, McDonald Engineers has continued to achieve significant growth and deliver an enviable profit.
McDonald Engineers campaign to promote the use of copper hot water cylinders has been welcomed by the president of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering at a recent visit to the Fife company.
CIPHE President, Allan McIntosh, was visiting McDonald Engineers in his official capacity, where he was able to see first-hand how the copper cylinders were manufactured and understand the benefits copper cylinders have to offer.
